PILGRIMAGE

[This poem was broadcast on AIR, Hyderabad, Yuva Vani on 23rd July 1978]

All my life

I’ve walked

On this rocky path – alone.

But how I laughed when the thorns hurt!

How I loved those deep scars on my feet!

Every time I stumbled,

Every time I fell,

I got up in triumph.

My steps became more confident,

There was more hope,

Just because you,

Yes, you

Were the destiny of my pilgrimage;

For I was your pilgrim.

Then,

When I was so near my destiny

—–only one step,

then I lost it!

The thorns bring tears now,

The scars bring pain.

Every time I stumble,

Every time I fall,

Only dust rises.

My courage ebbs, and despair remains.

Yet I go on.

My pilgrimage has no end;

For I desire to lose myself,

Where I lost you;

In the labyrinth of life

————or was it death?
