I LAID HER TO REST

I laid her to rest, tonight

__ our Relationship.

As elegant in death, as in life,

She lay in quiet splendour.

In her hair, as soft as monsoon clouds,

I sprinkled flowers

and the many fragrances she had brought

from lands near and distant.

On her dark eyes,

that had once sparkled

like the sun on restless water,

I gently placed her still unfulfilled dreams, her visions.

I rubbed her cheeks with the glow of happiness

Over her soft lips

I painted the sensation of your kiss.

In her fingers,

I braided the silken web of laughter and song,

of the many words and languages she had spoken.

On her cold breast,

under the mantle of your embrace,

I placed the little crucible

that contained a sea of emotion.

At her feet

I laid my barren life,

Then wrapped her

in the gossamer shroud of heartbreak.

I stood back to look at her

One last time.

No God or man could create again

so magnificent a beauty,

such manifest Grace!

With shaking hands I buried her

in the sky,

underneath a pile of moonlight.

And at her head

I placed the Venus.

When you look up on a dark night,

A radiance marks her grave.
