YOU AND I

I watch you walk from a distance,

Foot by graceful foot.

I watch the changing patterns

of light and shade

upon your shoulders, at your feet.

I walk the same road,

Beneath the same boughs.

The breeze that plays

With your hair

And wraps around you,

I feel it too – the very same breeze.

I feel your soft touch

On tender, new leaves;

For they respond to me.

I hear the melodies

That play in your bosom;

For they vibrate through me.

I know light is your beloved;

For I ever move towards the sun.

I know you must reach

Higher ever higher;

For I stretch skyward.

I know you embody knowledge,

That you hold wisdom;

For I gather these grains greedily.

I know you must be vast,

You must hold a multitude;

For my horizon keeps widening,

Trying to hold you.

I know you have conquered pain;

For it is dying rapidly in me.

I know your mind dwells

Deep, very deep;

For my thoughts have long since

Left the shallow realms.

Your life must be radiant,

for a glow spreads in mine.

Perfection must be your destiny,

For my road leads nowhere else.

You must create beauty

By every act of yours;

For beauty resides in me.

You are a definite reality

Or only a fanciful dream?

I do not know.

Yet I live for the joy

Of being alive,

Alive to find you,

To be found by you.
